Started in June of 2021, the Red Peloton U23 bike racing team for riders ages 19-23 was created by the Red Peloton to financially support riders through race fee reimbursements, coaching cost supplementation, and supplied kits.
We believe support and stability, is the key to unlocking these young riders’ potential. As a part of the strategic vision of the Red Peloton to support youth cycling, this initiative provides young riders fresh out of junior programs and high school cycling teams with an opportunity to continue their development as well as achieve their cycling goals. Through the resources, passion, and support that the Red Peloton has to offer, this will be a multi-year program supporting young riders that are looking to continue their racing career as well as reach the upper echelons of this sport.
There is currently a void, specifically in Sonoma County, within the cycling landscape between Junior teams and continental professional teams. This lack of support causes many riders to either abandon their dreams or to try and battle alone in local races to gain experience and earn a reputation as a successful racer. The Red Peloton U23 program will be a long-term initiative that has become the focal point of our current activities as well as creating a legacy of youth cycling development.
Our team is trained by USA Cycling certified coaches Amber Smolik, Chris Burnham and Tyler Williams. These coaches provide monthly feedback, regarding their progress, adherence to the established plans, and overall communication. Our Team Mentors Sam Bassetti and Mike Charleton, provide day-of race support, tactical discussions as well as post-race analysis. We host a season-opening team camp, as well as several mini-camps throughout the year to provide the opportunity for team building.
